About the Foundation

OUR MISSION:

Empowering Youth to Live Life to the Fullest Everyday regardless of Circumstance or Diagnosis.

OUR STORY

The Charley-Walker Foundation was started in 2014, when we raised $4,000 by forming a team at the Independence Day 5k at Topsail Island, selling sunglasses, and receiving donations.  In 2015, we raised $8,000 by forming a team at the race again, selling hats, and donations.  Both years the money was split between CureSMA and The Walker Herring Taylor Scholarship at Auburn University.  In 2016, the Charley-Walker Foundation became a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. In the absence of the Independence Day 5k race, we decided to plan a 2016 New Year’s Eve Gala to raise money.

Our Foundation has evolved and our mission is:

Empowering Youth to Live Life to the Fullest Everyday regardless of Circumstance or Diagnosis.

This may be youth that are encountering health issues, financial burdens or support to organizations to inspire youth to Make it Count.  While CureSMA and The Walker Herring Taylor Scholarship will always be two of our benefactors, we will also set aside funds to help youth in other ways.

More details about our charities:

CureSMA Charity:

Cure Spinal Muscular Atrophy, is an organization that is dedicated to creating a treatment and cure for SMA. SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) is a disease that robs people of physical strength by affecting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord, taking away the ability to walk, eat, or breathe. It is the number one genetic cause of death for infants. Research is the key to finding a cure for this disease and great strides are being made.  The CharleyWalker Foundation is committed to helping with the advancement in research for this horrible disease. Walker Herring Taylor Scholarship Fund:

A scholarship was established at the School of Forestry at Auburn University in memory of Walker.  Walker decided to attend Auburn and loved the school and friends that he made.  We have no doubt that a scholarship in his name, would be the memory that Walker would have chosen if he could.  This scholarship helps those that aren’t in a financial position to attend Auburn University earn an education at a great university.  Click here to learn more about the Walker Herring Taylor Scholarship Fund.
